RTS Link

About RTS Link

The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is a game-changing 4km cross-border rail project designed to modernize the commute between Malaysia and Singapore. As of May 2026, construction has surpassed the 90% completion mark, with full operations officially slated to begin in January 2027.

Key Infrastructure and Connectivity

The RTS Link features two primary terminuses: Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and Woodlands North Station in Singapore. Once operational, the shuttle service will provide a swift, five-minute journey across the Straits of Johor, significantly reducing the reliance on the heavily congested Causeway.

Capacity: Designed to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.

Integration: In Malaysia, the Bukit Chagar station will serve as a transit-oriented hub, while Singapore’s station connects directly to the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).

Seamless Travel: The Co-located CIQ

The most significant feature of the RTS Link is the Co-located Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facility. Passengers will clear both Malaysian and Singaporean immigration at their point of departure.

Example: A traveler heading to Singapore will clear Malaysian exit and Singaporean entry immigration at Bukit Chagar before boarding. Upon arrival at Woodlands North, they can simply exit the station and continue their journey.

Economic and Social Impact

Operated by RTS Operations (a joint venture between Prasarana and SMRT), this project is more than just a rail line; it is a catalyst for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). By facilitating smoother people-to-people ties, the RTS Link is expected to boost local businesses in Johor Bahru, ease the daily lives of thousands of workers, and further solidify the economic partnership between the two nations.
