Station Facts

Sri Petaling LRT station is a LRT station in Sri Petaling, a suburb in the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The station is part of the Sri Petaling-Sentul Timur branch of the Ampang Line (formerly known as STAR, and the Ampang and Sri Petaling Lines).

The station was opened on July 11, 1998, as part of the second phase of the STAR system's opening, including 7 new stations along the Chan Sow Lin-Sri Petaling route and to cater for the Commonwealth Village and National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil, during the KL Commonwealth Games in 1998.

About Sri Petaling Station

The Sri Petaling LRT station is the southern terminus for passenger services on the Sri Petaling-Sentul Timur branch of the Ampang Line.

This suburb was first developed in 1981, before this, there was a rubber plantation there. From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s it was widely known as the 'rubbish area' as it was the location of a landfill site. Garbage disposal was discontinued and the land it had occupied turned into a playground and car park area for the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Vista Komanwel (also known as Vista Commonwealth) condominium (formerly used as 1998 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village) and International Medical University (IMU) is within walking distance to this station.

The proposed Ampang extension line starts from Sri Petaling Station and passes through Kinrara, Puchong and ends at Putra Heights. The extension is 17.7km long with 12 new stations. The project is expected to be completed in 2014.
